Guitar Lessons

At Long Ridge Music, we offer guitar lessons for every level. The interaction of student and teacher is critical to mastering a musical instrument, and so each student is carefully matched with a teacher. Weekly lessons can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length.

Meet Our Guitar Teachers

Dave Hart (Guitar) has been working in the commercial and film world as a composer, arranger and studio guitarist for over 20 years. He has won several awards for his commercial work including Addy’s and New York Festivals and has composed and produced music for national ads including American Express, Miller Beer, Maxwell House, Delta Airlines and many more. He has scored many television documentaries and has worked with numerous studio legends including Mark Egan, Danny Gottlieb, Randy Brecker and Shawn Pelton.

Dave began to study guitar when he was 9, and started his musical career at the age of 10 as a soloist in professional choirs, highlighted by his acceptance to the New York City Opera Children’s Choir. Dave attended Syracuse University as a jazz and classical guitar major, studying there with Carlo Manobianco. He completed his undergraduate degree at New York University (BM 1987) where he studied with jazz guitar great Alan Hanlon. Dave has also studied with Jeff Bonenberger of the Bonenberger Duo who had been a student of Andre Segovia and Benjamin Verdery.

Dave began teaching while still in high school at the Music and Arts Center for Humanity in Bridgeport, CT., and over the last several years has been teaching privately from his studio. His work as a session guitarist has helped Dave to develop the ability to play in many styles, and he believes in teaching the core skills that will enable his students to pursue all facets of the guitar. Also, recognizing that different students learn in different ways, Dave tailors his lessons to optimize each student’s progress and enjoyment of playing guitar.

Andrew Kuusisto (Bass & Guitar) After attending Berklee College of Music, where he studied music production and composition, Andrew embarked on a successful teaching and performing career. Playing in various bands and venues around Boston, Mass, eventually enabled him to earn a spot in a group called No December. They recorded 4 CD’s, and maintained a rigorous performance schedule throughout the Northeast, PA, and California. Andrew (with No December) shared the bill/opened for such rock luminaries as Tommy Lee, Filter, Sevendust, and Seether. Since 2005, based on his extensive studio experience, artists called upon him for music production, most notably Inspiration States. In addition to recording for other producers and being an on call/ for hire musician, he is now prepping to record his first CD as a leader. Due to be released in Spring ’10, it will contain original compositions performed with a full band.

Throughout the band's career, Andrew continued his teaching, with guitar/bass lessons and band coaching/ instruction. Having taught students from 4-50+, he views music education as a cornerstone in a person’s life, knowing that music can enrich experience in immeasurable ways. Andrew feels lucky and blessed that he gets to make a living spending time on his passion, honorably sharing information with students that want to expand their creativity and repertoire.

Ray Bryant (Bass & Guitar) Studied with Rich Rabatin of Stony Brook School of Music for 7 years and had his first performance at Harrington’s Jazz Club in NY at age 15. He then studied under the tutelage of his musical mentor, Mike Frost, a student of the late Jaco Pastorious. The next few years were spent developing his own unique style of playing music and learning about "Music" and how to listen. Ray later went on to perform for Bugsy Malone’s sessions for Ziggy Marley, and performed guitar with Bakithi Kumalo, who was the bassist for Paul Simon’s Graceland album and tour. He performed with Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, and with folk duo Loam. He has performed numerous children’s concerts while not touring and went on to compose music that has been in two independent snow and skate films, "Echo’s from the Valley" and "Momentous Occasion’s". He is currently being certified as a music teacher at University of Bridgeport; is working in the NY, NJ and Connecticut area as a soloist; released 3 albums to date and recently performed at Fairfield Theater, "Live at 5" with rock band "Kite".
