Joseph O'Brien
A native of Philadelphia, Joseph O’Brien completed his Master of Music in Organ Performance at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, where he studied with James O’Donnell, former Director of Music at Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral, and Martin Jean. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance at West Chester University, studying with Anita Greenlee.
Joseph began his musical studies on the piano with Kathleen Schneider and has performed in recitals at the Kaufman Music Center’s Merkin Concert Hall and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in New York City. He went on to study organ with Michael Sheerin, during which time he received the Peter LaManna Excellence in Music Scholarship. Recent performances include the Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; the Madeleine Wing Adler Theater at West Chester University; Dwight Chapel, Woolsey Hall, and Marquand Chapel at Yale University; and Saint Katharine of Siena Church in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
Joseph has served as Organist at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg, Maryland and as Director of Music at Holy Family Church in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. He is currently the Director of Music Ministry at the Parish of St. Cecilia–St. Gabriel in Stamford, Connecticut.
Joseph’s teaching method is grounded in the Taubman Approach, which emphasizes healthy and efficient piano technique. He has taught private piano lessons to students of all ages since 2014 and is pleased to join the faculty at Long Ridge Music Center.
