Jay is a Jazz/Classical pianist, composer, and an educator.
He earned his BFA in Jazz studies at Concordia University in Montreal QC and started his career as a Jazz pianist. Soon after, he jumped into the Mecca of the Jazz world, New York, to pursue his MM in Jazz performance at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music. He studied with renowned Jazz legends such as Jon Faddis, John Abercrombie, Andrew Laverne, Gary Smulyan and so on. After completing his MM, he decided to go for a second MM in Composition and studied contemporary classical music with the great Joel Thome. This also led him to exploring various musical studies; from Baroque contrapuntal techniques to Post- tonal theory, Electro-Acoustic music, Studio scoring of Film/commercial music, Contemporary composition recital and so on. He also participated in an Opera Project titled “L’incoronazione di Poppea” as a Harpsichordist, under the baton of Hugh Murphy with the Purchase Symphony Orchestra. After completing his second MM successfully, he began his career as a Pianist, Composer, and educator.
Jay has taught piano and music to all ages of students. He has multi-cultural background and diverse life experience in many locations. Jay loves to share his knowledge and experience with his students.
