Jeb Dennis
Hailed a "pianist of lyrical gifts" by renowned pianist Steven Lubin, concert pianist and organist JEB DENNIS received a Bachelors in Piano from Indiana University-Bloomington, and a Masters in Piano from State University of New York, Purchase. Principal teachers were Dr. Karen Shaw, Stephanie Brown, and German Diez, all from piano lineages dating back generations to great composers, performers, and teachers.
He studied organ with pianist and organist Randall Atcheson, and became Assistant Organist at First Congregational Stamford, Stanwich Congregational, and First Presbyterian Church, Greenwich. He served as Bridge Minister of Music at First Presbyterian in 2021, and has coached at Yale University with organ faculty Martin Jean, Thomas Murray, and F. Walden Moore.
Jeb competed in state, national, and university piano competitions. Honors included an Indiana University Dagmar Reiley Piano Award, an orchestral debut at 16 playing Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto, and a 2003 performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 15, K. 450. Mr. Dennis has played for organist and composer Anthony Newman, and in masterclasses of eminent pianists Leslie Howard, David Dubal, Paul Ostrovsky, Sarah Davis Buechner, Jeffrey Swan, and Leonard Hokanson.
He has collaborated with diverse artists, including soprano Caroline Worra, tenor John Easterlin, sitcom / Broadway veteran Diana Canova, baritone Jonathan Hays, among others. Jeb performed solo concerts in private venues in Newport, RI, Oklahoma City, and Dallas, TX, and several annual Christmas concerts at the Greenwich Field Club --- most recently with Metropolitan Opera soprano, Maureen McKay.
Devoted to new music, Mr. Dennis has premiered piano compositions of acclaimed Greenwich-based composer Icli Zitella, Marcia Preston, and performed solo and chamber works of Lowell Liebermann in concerts at SUNY Purchase. In 2007 he performed in a New York City chamber concert of Mario Davidovsky’s Simple Dances, the composer in attendance.
By late 2020, Jeb finished perfecting all 32 Piano Sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, just before the master’s 250th birthday, December 16. He has been recording them all for near-future releases. In December 2019, at Greenwich Arts Council, he performed Beethoven's most difficult and 45-minute-long "Hammerklavier" Sonata, for its 200th anniversary. As of 2023, Jeb is adding the Franz Liszt piano transcriptions of Beethoven Symphonies to his repertoire, starting today with Symphony No. 6!
Mr. Dennis operates two piano studios in Stamford and Norwalk, and coaches promising pianists. Alongside music, he is a Connecticut Realtor®, and author of the book Home Selling Secrets of the Rich and Famous. He performs live / live-streamed concerts for luxury open house events, and transcribes various music for solo piano, including a Fantasy on Themes from Bizet’s Carmen.
